Google Maps Update Predicts Your Next Favorite Restaurant

on July 31, 2018

iPhone and iPad users can expect a new feature on the  Google Maps update. Next time you’re out and about (and hungry), use Google Maps to find a place to grab a bite to eat. Maps now use collected data to suggest restaurants based on your preferences, favorite spots, and (of course) your location.

You’ll see nearby restaurants pop up as you drive (or ride) around town. Tapping the restaurant will show a match rating, based on available data, up to 100%. Maps will list similar restaurants (among those you’ve visited) and relevant interests (live music, Gluten-free options, etc.) based on how relevant the restaurant description is to your recent search activity.

What We Think

People love food. Google gets that. So we’re not surprised that the latest Google Maps update gives another boost to restaurateurs’ digital marketing and SEO efforts.

What it Means for You

If you own/do marketing for a restaurant, we can’t overstate the importance of leading the pack when it comes to digital marketing. If you’re not maintaining a Google My Business Listing, spreading the word with email and social, or optimizing for local search, you’re missing out on a whole new crew of regulars. Don’t own a restaurant? Google already utilizes similar matching technology to recommend nearby businesses in local search. Don’t skimp on Local SEO, you can’t afford to.
