Content Marketing News: What’s Next

on June 7, 2018

Working in digital marketing, I’m reminded of something my mom used to say: the only constant in life is change. Whatever I’m doing, I don’t get too comfortable. And content marketing is no different. Here is some content marketing news.

Content Marketing News

Content Marketing News

Audio

Whether it’s podcasts, TED talks, news reports, or recorded books, more and more people are turning to audio when it comes time to learn from the experts. People still love to read, but integrating more audio content will only cement your reputation as a thought leader.

Hey, Google. . .

With Google Home, Alexa, and numerous other voice-activated platforms on the rise, it’s never too early to start thinking about how to optimize your content for voice searches. [It’s one of many reasons your digital content marketing will go nowhere if you don’t go mobile-first]

Keep it Real

When content is stilted, jargon-heavy, or keyword-stuffed in the name of SEO, people can tell. And if they find any of that on your web pages or print marketing materials, they won’t stick around for long (and aren’t likely to come back). Write your content like the real, interesting human that you are— and people will engage.

PRO Tip: Whenever you share “the facts”, be sure to back it up with strong data and cited sources. The extra homework will be worth the trust and credibility you build along the way.

Interactivity

You don’t have to have Virtual or Augmented Reality (VR/AR) to have interactive content. Make it easy to engage. Make sure people know where to look to find what they need, what to do next, and how to get in touch. Pepper in freebies and ways for them to share content with you, and you’re on your way to building a loyal, eager tribe who can’t wait for your next email or site update.

There are no guarantees when it comes to when a marketing shift will happen. You don’t know how sweeping and lasting the changes will be. But there are a few things you can do to make sure that—no matter what happens—your content game is strong.

Adaptability

The more flexible and adaptable your team, the less they’ll be derailed by the inevitable changes in the marketing sphere.

Awareness

If you keep your ear to the ground when it comes to the latest content marketing news and data, changes aren’t going to take you by surprise. You’ll be able to see ahead of time how relevant certain changes are to the way you do business, and what you need to do to be ready for them.

Creativity

The most sophisticated bot (or the most complicated algorithm) is no match for a truly creative and innovative team. Give your team room to imagine, test, and experiment. You’ll end up crafting content you never thought possible.

Variety

If you have diverse content platforms, types, and strategies, individual changes won’t throw you for a loop. Even if a particular content technique seems foolproof, don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

Bottom Line: If you’re committed to educating yourself, being proactive, and using an integrated approach, you’re not likely to be uprooted by content marketing shifts. We hope we have helped you with our content marketing news so you can continue to provide valuable marketing to your customers.
